The Italian Football Federation has announced that Genoa will not face relegation in the upcoming season, after securing a win over Bologna at the weekend.

Genoa, who currently sit in last place in Serie A, were defeated by Bologna on Saturday night, but have now secured their first win since mid-December and moved up to seventh in the table.

Genoa's manager, Gianmarco Cesare, said: "We've got some good players and we're going to be a strong team this season."

He added: "I'm very happy with our performance against Bologna. We didn't play well today, but I think we'll do better next time out."

Despite their victory, Genoa remain in danger of being relegated to Serie C2 if they don't improve their form in the remaining games of the season.

However, Cesare is confident that his side can bounce back from their loss against Bologna and secure promotion to Serie A next season.

"We want to make sure that we don't go into the final stages of the season without winning any games," he said.

The Italian football league system requires teams to play four matches before the end of the season, so Genoa need to win all four remaining matches to avoid relegation.

Cesare added: "If we lose one more game, it won't matter much for us. But if we win all four, we'll definitely be promoted."

In the meantime, Genoa will continue to prepare for the new campaign, hoping to improve their chances of making it to Serie A next season.

"The goal is to get promoted to Serie A as soon as possible," Cesare said. "That would be great."
